Sanford Surface Grinder – Disassembly Part 1

I bought this surface grinder a while ago and I figure now is as good a time as any to start disassembling it and seeing what needs to be fixed and to determine if there’s enough life left in this machine or not. It has problems. A lot of them. The question is are they recoverable?

Leveling the K&T 2HL Horizontal Milling Machine

This is a project that has been a long time coming. I’ve needed to get the 2HL stable and level for a while. I machined some components to use as leveling feet.

Troyke U-9 9″ Rotary Table Cleanup (Disassembly and Assembly)

I found this rotary table at auction. I didn’t know how big it was (I seem to do that a lot!) but I had to have it! It’s only 1″ larger than the John B. Stevens table I have now, but the Troyke can be used vertically, which is a big advantage over the Stevens. I still think a 10″ would be ideal for the Bridgeport, and would probably be right at the limit that I would want to lift and move safely, but this 9″ will be good for me.

Assembling an open source DRO for the Kearney & Trecker 2HL

I’ve wanted to put a DRO on the K&T, but almost as much, I want to have the ability to cut helical gears, or to cut gears in any tooth combination, and make it easy to do so. Finding a low lead attachment for the 2HL will be nearly impossible. But I thought of an idea of how I could simulate it without all of the complexities involved in using the actual lead attachment. And this video is the beginning of that journey.

Machining a 12″ Camelback Straight Edge on the K&T 2HL – In one setup?

I bought this Martin Model Pattern 12″ Camelback straight edge back in January and I think it’s about time to machine it so I can scrape it in.

What I’d like to do is use my K&T 2HL horizontal mill to machine all sides in one setup. I also replaced the drive gear for my universal head with one that’s a little tighter in tolerance. Thanks to Tom Stover at Tom’s Rabbit Hole for the new gear.

Machining a 12″ Camelback Straight Edge on the K&T 2HL – Making a fixture

I bought this Martin Model Pattern 12″ Camelback straight edge back in January and I think it’s about time to machine it so I can scrape it in.

What I’d like to do is use my K&T 2HL horizontal mill to machine all sides in one setup. To do that, I need to make a fixture to hold the straight edge in the right orientation to expose all machinable edges.
