I’ve been working on repairs to this Kearny & Trecker Universal Milling Head for a long time. I am finally ready to get it back together. Check out the link in my bio to the YouTube video of part 1.

I feel like something is missing here. 😂 Check out my latest video on the Kearney & Trecker 2HL mill (link in bio). I got the feed distribution box out of the knee, with a few issues.

The table is off the K&T! It was actually a lot easier than I was expecting it to be. The good news is the ways look pretty good. The bad news is the bearings need replaced and they are EXPENSIVE (at least to me)! See the link in my bio for the YouTube video on how I removed it.

The table gib for the K&T 2HL horizontal milling machine has a lot wrong with it. Not only is it a banana, it has a lot of scoring and is worn about .013” as best I can measure. The bow is easy enough to fix quickly in the arbor press. And I would love to be able to grind it and scrape it but that is beyond my capability or budget. Or even make a new one. I’ll shim it when I put it back in. Maybe someday this machine will get a real rebuild but until then, I need to make it good enough.

In this lesson, we learn how to break drill bits. Twice. And how hindsight is 20/20 or better. I would seriously do everything different. LOL! Link in my bio for the YT video.

Managed to get the saddle off the knee of the Kearney & Trecker 2HL. This is the last major component to come off the mill. I was advised NOT to take the knee off, plus to do so would probably be impossible in my current shop. Video link in my bio.

I spent a bunch of time machining this cast iron straight edge from Denis Foster for an upcoming class on machine scraping. First time ever machining something like this, especially the odd shapes. I got a lot of help from the maker, and others, and it came out great! There’s a link in my bio to the first of the two part video series I have up on YouTube.

Doing what I have to do to make sure “tick tick tick” doesn’t go “boom!” Looks like I had a bad bushing in the spindle pulley. Simple and cheap fix.
Finally finished machining the parts I needed for my 13″ South Bend steady rest.
